ARTIST STATEMENT:

I use popular imagery from everyday urban and domestic scenes that are paired with odd objects and actions to imbue ordinary images with a sense of the uncanny. I start with images from old family photos, the newspaper, found photographs, images in books, images I see on a daily basis and images from my imagination. Then I pull these images apart and reconstruct them to create dramas in which nothing is quite what it seems. The end result is something that I hope is both familiar and alarming.

I use simplified human forms, blank faces, and animals to hint at themes of sexual angst, dark humor, violence, gender roles, vulnerability, childhood, warped memories and relationships.

I have developed this ongoing series of drawings that depict strange half narratives and invented family histories that all together resemble the idea of a snap shot family photo album. They are stories that freeze moments in impossible contortions.
