PARTY PICS!
January 20th, 2009
To re-cap: January 17 marked the 2nd anniversary of Tinlark Gallery. We celebrated with two great group shows, a taco truck, DJ MonaLisa, and many friends and supporters. In the Main Gallery, a collaborative curatorial project called INSPIRED was unveiled. We asked 7 art & design bloggers who inspire Tinlark to choose an artist or two that inspires them daily. The result was a cohesive, empowering, smart and funny welcome to a new bright day dawning. I'm so grateful to Joanna Goddard, Erin Loechner, Meighan O'Toole, Abbey Hendrickson, Holly Becker, Allysa Thomas, and Grace Bonney.
In the project room, ODDDUCK sprung to life from the deft curatorial hands of mega-talented Jessica Devereaux. See for yourself the strange and wonderful cabinet of curiosity interpretations of artists Elijah Crampton, Zig Gron, Anna Medina, Katherine Guillen, Rebecca Lowry, Matthew Rainwaters, and Dan Van Clapp.
Even our sign was ready for a party!
Inspired includes Tanya Aguiniga's soft rocks and spirographs, along with Mike Perry's awesome screenprints.
Henrike Stahl's painted photos brought to you by Joanna Goddard and international Fed Ex.
Souther Salazar's hot air balloons are made of light bulbs and magic.
Oh, and speaking of Souther, here he is checking out studio mate Martha Rich's installation.
And speaking of Martha Rich, here she is adding to our 2009 Wishing Wall of Inspirational Envisioning.
Here's Tanya Aguiniga enjoying works by Marcie Paper, Natalia Czajkiewicz, Kime Buzzelli & Betsy Walton.
We don't know you, but we're loving your footwear!
The talented Yu-I Chan who's taken gocco to a new level!
NOW, TO ODDDUCK (keep you arms and legs inside the car please)...
ODDDUCK curator Jessica Devereaux (in polka dots) with the begloved Rebecca Lowry.
Rebecca Lowry's Braille-embroidered "Crucero" contains the text: "For nothing is so productive of elevation of mind as to be able to examine methodically and truly every object which is presented to thee in life..." -Marcus Aurelius
An installation view of ODDDUCK.
This is our attempt at a virtual tour...
and we're turning...
Anna Medina's "Dictionary of Lost Words" defines and illustrates scores of animal and plant species that had yet to be defined.
Elijah Crampton's taxidermy-licious installation, "You Are Always Falling Toward My Magnet."
AND NOW, BACK TO THE PARTY...
Here's what his wish says, "I wish I could fly and can not die and have super powers."
The crowd around Edgar the Taco Guy including artist Gavin Bunner (yellow hat) whose solo show opens Feb. 28th!
Who better to spin at a gallery than the lovely MonaLisa?
Tinlark started with a heartfelt goal: To provide emerging
artists with a space in which to realize their artistic visions, and to
provide new and returning collectors a welcoming environment in which
to find carefully curated art from the world's most promising talents. Here's to a great anniversary and many years to come! THANKS!
